According to Transport Canada, “all travellers must have a removable non-medical mask or face covering to cover their mouth, nose and chin to prevent the inadvertent spread of COVID-19.”
Travellers must wear their non-medical mask or face covering “at all times during the screening process and the boarding process, as well as during the flight, upon landing and when exiting the aircraft, or as directed to do so by a member of the aerodrome security personnel, a gate agent or crew member.”
When reached for comment on this particular incident, an Air Transat spokesperson told Daily Hive it “strongly deplores any actions or initiatives encouraged on social media that may put the public and travellers at risk” and that it is “taking this situation very seriously.”

The airline also noted, however, that “this passenger presented a valid medical certificate signed by a medical professional, indicating that his medical condition did not allow him to wear a mask at all times during the flight.”
In accordance with the federal COVID-19 emergency orders, “he did meet the requirements allowing him not to wear a mask,” the spokesperson said.
