Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. said goodbye to the BC Lions today after being traded by the team.
The 31-year-old made a touching Instagram post with a long caption thanking various people who impacted his time in Vancouver.
“Man! First & foremost, thank you Father God for it all!! I’m just so grateful BC traded for me in 2022 and helped mold me into the player and man I am today,” starts the caption.
“Thank you to all my teammates over the years, man. I promise we locked in 4L! Love yall boys!! Thank you to the coaches, trainers, EQ staff & everyone behind the scenes in the organization for all your hard work and commitment.”
“Thank you to the loyal fans!! Not the way we wanted to finish but a ton of memories and brothers made along the way. THANK YOU B.C.! God Bless!”

The Lions traded Adams Jr. to the Calgary Stampeders yesterday for a bundle of draft picks.
Last season was difficult for Adams Jr. He started the season as the Lions quarterback and was putting up strong numbers. He then got injured and lost his job when the team brought in Nathan Rourke from the NFL. Even after Adams Jr. fully recovered, the team stuck with Rourke as the starter, a decision that hurt Adams Jr., although he didn’t show it, remaining the ultimate teammate.
“That really crushed me,” Adams told reporters at the team’s year-end press conference. “When I came back and they told me they didn’t know if I was getting my spot back or anything, that just totally crushed me, I’m not going to lie.”
The Lions are now focused on moving forward with Rourke as the team’s focal point. While he struggled last season, the signal caller won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian Award back in 2022 and has shown he can be a star at this level.
