Western Family and the Vancouver Canucks teamed up to create Bar Down Blast, a limited-edition ice cream. Vanilla flavoured blue ripple ice cream and caramel-filled mini chocolatey pucks.

The Rogers takeover rages on.

For the first time in the Abbotsford Centre’s 16-year history, the venue is getting a name change.

Canucks Sports and Entertainment announced on Thursday that moving forward, the Abbotsford Centre will be known as the Rogers Forum.

The Rogers Communications brand has been intertwined with the Vancouver Canucks since 1998, when they acquired the broadcast rights to their games. Back in 2010, General Motors Place was renamed to Rogers Arena.

ā€œRogers Forum has become a true gathering place for the Fraser Valley, a space where our community comes together to cheer, connect, and celebrate.” Canucks Sports and Entertainment President Michael Doyle said in a press release.

This is the third B.C.-based sporting facility to bear the Rogers name. Aside from Rogers Arena and the new Rogers Forum, the home of the Vancouver Canadians was rebranded to “Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium” back in 2023.

Other sports venues around the country that have Rogers branding include Rogers Place, which houses the Edmonton Oilers, and Rogers Centre, where the Toronto Blue Jays play.

The Abbotsford Centre opened in 2009. It was originally home of the Calgary Flames’ AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat, from 2009 to 2014. Abbotsford was left without an AHL team for seven years before the Abbotsford Canucks began playing there in the 2021-22 season.

The Abbotsford Centre was rocking throughout the Calder Cup playoffs last season, as the Abbotsford Canucks brought home the first championship at any level of NHL-era Vancouver Canucks history last June.

They’ve been off to a rocky start this season, with most of the players from that championship squad no longer with the club.

However, they did snap a franchise-long 11-game losing streak on Wednesday night with their first home win of the season, a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Barracuda.
