A 9-year old boy was taken to hospital after suffering non-life threatening injuries to a hit and run incident at the intersection of Davie and Pacific.

The incident occurred yesterday when the child was cycling near SkyTrain’s Yaletown-Roundhouse Station. A car that was involved in an accident at the intersection veered off onto the sidewalk striking two 9-year old boys – one thrown to the side uninjured and the other trapped underneath the vehicle with the boy’s mother at his side.

As many as 20 people witnessed the incident and came to the boy’s rescue by lifting the Nissan Pathfinder SUV off the boy. The child was quickly sent to B.C. Children’s Hospital.

The 27-year old driver of the other silver Audi vehicle that was involved in the incident fled soon afterwards but was quickly tracked down and arrested by police later in the day. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
