88 new wildfires in southeast B.C. in the last week

There have been 88 new wildfires in the southeast region of B.C. since Thursday, August 13, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

The Rock Creek fire is currently 37 square kilometres and zero per cent contained after already burning 30 homes and 11 other structures and evacuating hundreds from homes and campsites in the area.

Authorities in B.C. are also working with U.S. crews to manage the 12,000 hectare Stickpin Fire burning seven kilometres south of the U.S. border near Grand Forks. That fire grew significantly on Friday but crews were able to decrease fire activity since Saturday morning.

The B.C. Wildfire Service has offered their help to the U.S. Forest Service and Stickpin fire Incident Management Team in fighting the fire across the border if needed.

There are currently 78 fires of note or fires larger than 10 hectares burning across B.C.
