Hats can get a bad rap, but there is no reason to write them off for fear of being lumped into the fedora wearing community. Think of a hat as a finishing touch to an outfit, instead of a standout accessory.
The only firm hat rule is to avoid the trilby (that’s the one everyone is always mistaking for a fedora), which has gotten a reputation for being the favourite of the club going crowd. If you are looking to venture into the world of the hat, try a wide brim felt or a unique baseball style, both of which are androgynous.
If you’re stuck trying to figure out what hat size works for your hairstyle and face shape, there are a number of excellent hat shops, including Yaletown’s Goorin Bros and the Granville Island Hat Shop. Take a friend along; trying on hats can be a fun affair, especially when the costume hats come out! See the slideshow below for a variety of hats with different clothing styles for inspiration.
