Team Canada quietly arrived at YVR today to play their first Women’s World Cup match in Vancouver this weekend. Touching down in their chartered Boeing 737, the team came through the doors of the Landmark Terminal looking weary, but excited – after all, Vancouver is home to a few of the ladies.
Team Canada Captain Christine Sinclair is one of them.
“It’s great to be home, you know, get the chance to play a World Cup game at home, it’s pretty special,” she told a packed media scrum.
The team is playing their next game on Sunday, June 21 at B.C. Place and she says she’s looking forward to finding out which team they will go up against.
“Obviously we want to know right now, but it’s nice to know we get the extra day and a bit of rest and we get to watch the other teams kick each other tonight.”
Team Canada’s coach John Herdman is excited for them to play on the West Coast.
“We’re just hoping for a full house. We were desperate to come back here. It genuinely feels like home, we’ve been training here for two years.”
After meeting with press, the women were whisked away in their official Team Canada bus.
