Metro Vancouver’s unusual dry spell is about to end with the arrival of heavy rain, and strong and gusty winds tomorrow.

Over the next six days, from Friday to Wednesday, Vancouver could see triple the amount of rain it saw during the entire month of December when just 64.1 mm of rain fell – well below the month’s average of 139.1 mm. Strong gusts are also possible for Friday and Saturday.

Here is the six day precipitation breakdown:

• Friday: 35-45 mm
• Saturday: 15-20 mm
• Sunday: 25-35 mm
• Monday: 25-35 mm
• Tuesday: 35-45 mm
• Wednesday: 15-25 mm

This could cause some localized flooding, but it will be a boon to local ski hills which have faced record low snowfall. In particular, Vancouver Island’s Mount Washington has yet to open due its low snow base of just 25 cms and has resorted to giving its season pass holders free skiing at Whistler Blackcomb for the month of January.

Up to 39 cms of new snow has been forecasted for Whistler Blackcomb from Friday to Wednesday.
