The Vancouver Police Department is searching for the driver of a car that struck and seriously injured a woman early this morning.

The incident occurred just after 4 a.m. when a pedestrian was hit by a car traveling east on Pacific Boulevard near Abbott Street, within the North False Creek area and just outside of Rogers Arena.

The 26-year-old female victim suffered a serious head injury and remains in hospital in critical condition. The driver of the car failed to remain at the scene.

Police are looking for a dark-coloured Honda Civic with probable front-end damage. Officers will be gathering evidence and canvassing for video to help determine who was behind the wheel.

Video already obtained by police shows there may have been several witnesses to the incident including two people standing on the corner of Abbott and Pacific, and someone on rollerblades across the street.

Investigators are appealing to those witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD Collision Investigation Unit at (604)717-3012 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
