26-year-old Burnaby man dies after falling off waterfall near Harrison Lake

RCMP and local search and rescue crews responded to reports of a 26-year-old man who fell off Rainbow Falls near Harrison Lake.

According to the Chilliwack Times, the incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday when one camper among a group of four young male campers decided to scale the waterfall.

While attempting to climb the waterfall, the man fell off the cliff and into the river. Another man with the group tried to rescue the friend, but he became trapped on the cliff.

Search and rescue crews recovered the body of the man who fell into the river. They were also able to rescue the trapped man without any injury.

The B.C. Coroner and RCMP are investigating the circumstances that led to the man’s death.

Vancity Buzz was not able to immediately reach Agassiz RCMP for further comment.

Rainbow Falls is a perennial waterfall with a total height of 140 metres. Its longest drop is approximately 40 meters high.
