25 photos of Vancouver's Martian skies due to wildfires

A thick haze of smoke from the B.C. Interior’s large wildfires is hovering over the Metro Vancouver region.

Residents woke up Sunday morning to an eerily dark Martian-like coloured sky, and in some areas there have even been reports of ash fall.

Some of the smoke is also from the Sechelt wildfire 60 kilometres northwest of Vancouver. The blaze has not been contained – it has grown from five acres to 200 acres within just four days.

• UPDATE: A joint air quality advisory for Metro Vancouver has been issued by the Metro Vancouver Regional District and Environment Canada.

Winds should clear most of the smoke by this afternoon in time for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Championship Final at B.C. Place Stadium. The forecast calls for a high of 29°C by the water and up to 36°C within inland areas.
