The search for a 20-year-old man in Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park has ended with the tragic discovery of his body.

The Surrey man, a 2012 graduate from Enver Creek Secondary School, was hiking with his friends on Friday, Vancity Buzz has learned.

UPDATE – JUNE 8, 2015: The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of the man as Sukhjeet Saggu.

During a run on the trail to Linderman Lake, he disappeared from sight and failed to meet with the rest of the group early in the afternoon.

The group searched for him on the trails until 4 a.m. on Saturday, but they had no success with locating their missing friend. They were also unable to call for search and rescue as there was no mobile signal reception in the mountains.

Later in the morning, another hiker in the area was able to assist the group by leaving the park area to call for help.

Chilliwack Search and Rescue, with the assistance of RCMP and other volunteers from Hope, Abbotsford, Langley, Mission, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, arrived in the area several hours later and began combing the park.

An RCMP helicopter spotted the man’s body within a boulder field Saturday afternoon. At this time, the cause of death has not been released, but the circumstances of the disappearance have been deemed highly unusual as he was found away from the meeting point with his friends – far away from the lake and any trail.
