Metro Vancouver’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified Dario Bartoli as the 15-year-old who was killed in the early Saturday morning assault in Surrey.

The name of the deceased victim has been released by police in hopes that more witnesses will come forward with information over what happened.

At 2:43 a.m., Surrey RCMP were called to the a home in the 15600 block of 18 Avenue, where two teenage boys had fled after being attacked.

Bartoli was rushed to Peace Arch Hospital with critical injuries while his 14-year-old companion only sustained minor injuries. Just after 10 a.m. that morning, Bartoli succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Police believe four of five other youth swarmed and assaulted the two teenage boys at Bakerview Park – a few blocks from the residence where the two teenagers found refuge. The motive is not known, but it is believed the group was drinking at the time and that weapons may have been used in the attack.

Surrey RCMP Victim Services are assisting Bartoli’s family during this very difficult time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448, or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Bartoli’s death is Surrey’s 16th homicide of 2014.
