This Saturday, July 12, Granville Street’s Marpole district will play host to the 14th annual Marpole Summerfest.
Marpole Summerfest is a free, family-oriented community celebration held between 63rd and 71st Avenues along Granville Street. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., the streets will come alive with fantastic merchant sidewalk sales, special promotions and local restaurants offering tastes of the many ethnic foods & specialties available in the neighbourhood.
The wide variety of lively children’s and family-oriented entertainment at this year’s Summerfest includes the local band Cocktail Pilots, the Sand Northrup One Woman Circus, Sylvia the Balloon Artiste, Ragtime Ron & the Riverboat Ramblers, as well as Noah Nine and the Rainbow Facepainters. There will also be a performance by Marpole’s own Opera Mariposa company, and an outdoor Bloom Yoga class. The Entertainment & Kids Zone also includes rides, games and the Marpole Library Story Buss and Puppet Show.
There’s something for everyone at Summerfest; for fans of hot rods and classic cars, the ninth annual Show & Shine event returns to the Petro Canada parking lot at 8072 Granville St; Marpole’s public art projects will be showcased with chARTsplosion on West 66th Avenue; and the newly introduced Giggle Photo Booth will allow everyone’s silly side to shine through with photo takeaways.
With such a wide variety of activities, you’re bound to work up an appetite so make sure to check out the wide selection of food trucks on hand, as well as the celebration of Marpole Branch Library’s 40th Birthday with a cake cutting (and eating!) ceremony.
