A single-family detached home in the Downtown Eastside, near the fringes of Chinatown, is on the market with a price tag exceeding some of the homes found in the city’s Westside neighbourhood.

A decrepit residential property at 320 Union Street in Strathcona has been listed for $1.395 million, nearly $300,000 more than the latest B.C. property assessment value.

The 2,627-square-foot home is four storeys tall and consists of six bedrooms and two bathrooms. Stonehouse Team Realty describes the structure as a Queen Anne architectural style character home with 10-foot ceilings, original staircases and stained glass windows.

A significant amount of work would have to be performed on the home, which sits on zoning that permits up to five strata units. A greater density could be achieved if the buyer works with the city on a Heritage Revitalization Agreement.

The property is half a block away from the new site of St. Paul’s Hospital at the False Creek Flats, a $1.2 billion development that could be completed by 2022.
