On Saturday, nearly 1,000 UBC students took to the streets of Vancouver to raise funds and awareness for Shinerama – a campaign to support research for finding a cure to cystic fibrosis.

This weekend’s event, better known as Shine Day, is among Shinerama’s largest fundraiser activities. From giving out hugs to shining shoes, from break-dancing to doing the dougie, students creatively raise awareness and funds for Shinerama.

Last year, UBC students raised $40,000 and won the ‘Best Overall Campaign Award’ through their initiatives and events. For 2013, organizers have raised the bar with a goal of reaching a financial goal of $65,00.

Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary charity fundraiser involving over 60 universities and colleges. Since it was established in 1961, Shinerama’s participating post-secondary institutions have raised over $23.5 million for cystic fibrosis research.

Vancity Buzz is proud to be a sponsor of the 2013 Shinerama UBC Campaign.
