1,000 foot long water slip-and-slide coming to Vancouver (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)

Remember your childhood backyard slip-and-slide? Imagine something that’s about seventy times longer and in the middle of a hilly street.

On Saturday, thousands of Salt Lake residents of all ages slid down a 1,000-foot long and 22-foot wide water slide down the city’s Main Street. The plastic slide sits on a layer of foam and ends in a 75-foot long pool with 3-foot deep waters.

Tickets for the Salt Lake City event started from $15 for single slides, increasing to $25 for triple slides and $35 for unlimited access. A $45 VIP pass gave a few the opportunity to exclusively slide with other VIP pass holders for an hour, along with lunch and perks such as a t-shirt, hat and water gun.

Proceeds went towards Ronald McDonald House and the Utah Aids Foundation.

All 3,000 tickets sold out, including 2,000 during the pre-sale phase and 1,000 on the day of at the site. One hundred volunteers began the process of set-up at 6 a.m. so that the attraction could open by its scheduled opening at noon and close by 7 p.m.

Besides the main slide attraction, the family-friendly event also features “live music, food and drinks”. A Vancouver side attraction could even potentially incorporate food carts and street performers.

Organizers of Salt Lake City’s Slide The City intend to bring their touring urban festival to the streets of Vancouver. There is no set date, but Vancouver is on the list and map of American and Canadian cities the attraction intends to reach.

According to KUTV, the next stops on the West Coast tour are Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.

It is anyone’s guess where such a 1,000 foot (305 metre) long slide, equivalent to the length of three FIFA soccer fields, could be located. Such a street would also need to be on a hill and within a centralized location near public transit.
