One of Toronto's favourite Izakaya restos just opened on Queen West
Queen West is currently living its best life.
And to add to all of the delicious goings-on, the neighbourhood is saying “irrashaimase!” to Zakkushi (welcome in Japanese).
The Izakaya spot’s Carlton location has made its mark on the city with delicious skewers, sushis and bowls, and now they’re bringing their flavours to the west end.

The second location opens its doors today at Queen and Markham streets, and according to their Instagram, they’re ready to serve you “some of the best yakitori you’ve ever had.”

“We searched long and hard for where the next location in the Zakkushi family will be located, and after much careful consideration we are excited to open up a Zakkushi location in the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Queen West,” Tomomi Arimura, Hall Manager for the spot, said in a press release.

And Queen West ought to be excited, too.
Using charcoal called “binchotan” allows the grills at Zakkushi to obtain extremely high temperatures without producing flame or odour, which retains the natural flavours of the grilled food.
This cooking method combines with flavourful marinades to offer guests a drool-worthy experience.
On the menu at this new location, you’ll be able to find the favourite menu items that Zakkushi is known for, like Pork Garlic Skewers and Premium Beef Tongue Skewers.

Zakkushi on Queen West will hold a grand opening today, starting at 6 pm. The event will feature an authentic Japanese Kagami Biraki (sake opening) ceremony for good luck.
And the first 50 guests will receive a voucher for 50% off the next visit.
Arimura said, “We are looking to really be part of the local community, and this
opening ceremony is just the first step for us to celebrate the many wonderful memories that we look to create in this neighbourhood in the coming weeks, months, and years.”
