What's open and closed this Easter long weekend in Toronto

As Ontario prepares to enter a month-long shutdown to stop the spread of COVID-19, this is the second Easter in a row that will be more low-key than usual thanks to the pandemic.

Starting on Saturday, April 3 restaurants across the province must cease serving customers in dining rooms and on patios, and gyms and fitness facilities must also close.

Retail stores are still allowed to open at 25% capacity, and essential businesses such as grocery stores can be open too.

Here’s a look at what’s open and closed around Toronto this long weekend:

Grocers are allowed to stay open at 50% of their usual capacity.

  • Rabba: Open 24 hours
  • The Food Depot: Open 24 hours
  • Galleria Supermarket: Oakville location is closed on Good Friday, but everywhere else is open.
  • Loblaws: Several of their locations are closed on Friday, April 2 and Sunday, April 4. Check local store hours online.
  • No Frills: Several locations are closed on Friday and Sunday. Check online.
  • Sobeys: Several locations are closed Friday and Sunday. Check online.
  • Summerhill Market: Open for reduced hours all weekend long.
  • Pusateri’s: Open on Good Friday, Sherway Gardens and Bayview Village closed on Sunday, April 4.

Although retail shopping is greatly reduced because of the shutdown, here are the open Toronto malls:

  • Eaton Centre: Open 11 am to 7 pm on Good Friday and 11 am to 5 pm on Easter Sunday
  • Yorkville: Closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday
  • Sherway Gardens: Closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday
  • Scarborough Town Centre: Closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday
  • Dufferin Mall: Closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday
  • Shops at Bayview Village: Closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday

Many pharmacies will be open for modified hours over the long weekend so you can grab the essentials.

  • Shoppers Drug Mart: Many stores are open modified hours on Good Friday Easter Sunday. Check your local store’s hours online.
  • Rexall: Some stores are closed on Good Friday or Easter Monday or open modified hours. Check your local store’s hours online.

If you’re eligible to book a vaccine, Toronto’s City-run clinics are accepting appointment bookings all three days of the long weekend.
