More than 30 Trillium Health Partners staff have tested positive for COVID-19 and are now self-isolating at home.

In a statement sent to Daily Hive, THP confirmed 36 employees in the last 10 days have been recovering from the virus and are self-isolating.

They also confirmed that though the transmission has been through a “variety of sources,” the largest source has been through the community.

“THP has rigorous screening, contact tracing and infection prevention and control measures in place to ensure our hospital remains a safe place to receive care,” said a spokesperson for THP.

“THP staff are screened daily before entering the hospital. If a staff member is showing one or more COVID-19 symptoms or has had close contact with a positive case, they do not report to work. For this reason, many of our health care workers who are currently off for COVID-19 have not been exposed to the hospital or patients while symptomatic or asymptomatic and awaiting testing.”

Five units at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital, and Queensway Healthcare Centre are currently dealing with an outbreak; however, THP notes that these 36 cases are “not all the result of a hospital unit outbreak.”

“Trillium Health Partners is one of the largest community hospitals in Canada with over 10,000 staff, professional staff and students across all of our sites,” said the THP spokesperson.

“The number of staff currently recovering from COVID-19 represents approximately 0.3% of THP employees.”
