Get your cameras ready Toronto, there’s going to be a spectacular supermoon rising over the city this weekend.

On the evening of December 3, the giant-looking moon is scheduled to rise above Toronto, making it this year’s only true supermoon.

A supermoon occurs when the closest point to Earth in the moon’s orbit coincides with a full moon. This makes the moon appear larger and brighter in the sky than usual.

This Sunday, set your alarm for 5:13 pm, as this is when the moon is set to illuminate the sky and give everyone who’s watching a free outdoor show.

For optimal viewing, find a park or another spot outside the city limits in order to have enough darkness and be prepared to be amazed.

A good spot to go moon watching in Toronto is usually at Humber Bay Park West, which provides a sweeping view of the skyline and harbour, over which the giant orb will rise in all its majesty.
