Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the City of Toronto, as they say significant snowfall is expected on Sunday.

The flakes are is supposed to start falling on Sunday morning, and five to 10 centimetres is possible before it tapers off into the night.

“Travel is expected to be impacted due to moderate to heavy snow,” Environment Canada said. “Motorists should be prepared for winter weather driving conditions.”

However, they don’t anticipate that snow will accumulate near Lake Ontario, as the flaked will be “very wet” near the water. A high of 2°C is projected, bringing a chance for rain as well.

Environment Canada says there is still some uncertainty about when the storm will pass over the city, and when the snow will be heaviest. The agency will update their special weather statements as new data becomes available.

The snow is being brought in by an area of low pressure – called a Colorado Low – that is tracking from Ohio towards the St. Lawrence River.
