Toronto Raptors fan nails ridiculous half-court shot to win season tickets

One Toronto Raptors fan got a moment they’d never forget on Wednesday night.
At halftime of their final home game of the season, a 27-year-old Raptors fan named Liam Rodrigues entered the court with a daunting proposal: hit one shot from half-court, and go home with a pair of season tickets for the 2025-26 campaign, presented by team sponsor Tangerine Bank.
Rodrigues had previously taken part in a lay-up contest with Tangerine last weekend to qualify him for the once-in-a-lifetime chance.
“I took a couple shots on my local outdoor court on Sunday to try to get a feel for it,” Rodrigues told Offside.
Though much of the crowd in attendance for the game against the Charlotte Hornets had gone out to grab food, drinks, or hit the washroom at halftime, those who chose to stick around got to see Rodrigues fire up an attempt he’ll never forget.

Though the shot might not have been taken with perfect form and might’ve taken every ounce of Rodrigues’ strength to make it to the basket, it got the goal accomplished all the same when it swished through the hoop.
“As soon as I shot it, I thought I left it short,” Rodrigues said. “I was shocked when I saw it fall through. After that, it was just a blur of excitement.”
The Mississauga native was instantly mobbed on court by the Raptors’ event staff, with the crowd also erupting in applause for one of their own.
If you ever find yourself next season at a game sitting next to someone who told you they won their tickets via an on-court contest, there’s a pretty good shot it just might be Rodrigues.
He plans to take his fiancƩe to many of the games next season, though it was his mom who had accompanied him for his ticket-winning endeavour on Wednesday.
“Really grateful for the opportunity, and looking forward to next season,” he added.
