Ex-Toronto sports radio host loses his riding in federal election

A former Toronto sports radio host appears likely to return to the media world after a brief foray into politics.
On Monday, ex-Sportsnet and current Corus radio host Greg Brady found himself finishing second in his first run at public office.
Back in March, Brady announced that he was temporarily stepping down from his role at AM 640 Toronto’s Toronto Today with Greg Brady show to seek a seat in Parliament in Ajax for the Conservative Party of Canada.
With 225 of 226 polls reporting as per CTV, Brady picked up 39.2 per cent of the votes, or 25,502, finishing behind Liberal candidate and current deputy mayor of Toronto Jennifer McKelvie, who picked up 36,583 to win 56.2 per cent of the vote.
“Our team was tireless and fantastic. Words can’t describe their talent and focus. I loved every second of this. My life is richer because I did this. I’m more entrenched in my community than ever before, and that work will continue,” Brady wrote in a post on X.
“I wish Jennifer McKelvie well as our riding’s new MP. We all want Ajax to succeed, and Canada to be its best. I will help in any way I can.”
McKelvie has yet to post on social media following the win.
Brady also addressed his future after losing the race.
“More news in the days to come, but I’m a disappointed yet proud guy tonight,” Brady added. “Thank you to those who helped and reached out.”
For the three other names on the ballot, they didn’t do much to swing the riding in either direction. NDP candidate Kyle Forster received 2.7 per cent of the vote, while Centrist Party’s Faisal Ali and Green Party’s Leigh Paulseth received one and 0.9 per cent, respectively.
The riding had previously voted Liberal in the last three federal elections, all of which had been won by Mark Holland.
