Toronto extends hours at 8 outdoor pools to help residents cope with extreme heat

The City of Toronto has extended hours at eight public pools to help residents cool off during the extreme heat wave that continues this week.

According to Environment Canada, the heat wave which kicked off at the onset of the Canada Day long weekend and continues through Thursday is “the most significant heat event in the past few years.”

Torontonians can swim until 11:45 pm tonight at the following outdoor pools:

• Alexandra Park at 275 Bathurst Street
• Alex Duff Pool at 779 Crawford Street
• Giovanni Caboto Pool at 1367 St. Clair Avenue West
• McGregor Park at 2231 Lawrence Avenue East
• Monarch Park at 115 Felstead Avenue
• Parkway Forest at 55 Forest Manor Road
• Smithfield Park at 175 Mount Olive Drive
• Sunnyside Park/Gus Ryder Pool at 1755 Lake Shore Boulevard West

The decision to extend pool hours is made daily when an Extended Heat Warning is in effect. With humidex values expected to reach 43ÂşC this week, this likely isn’t the last time late night swimming will be an option this summer week.
