Massive Toronto Maple Leafs playoff game yet to sell out in Florida and ticket prices are dropping

The Toronto Maple Leafs head into the biggest game of their season on Friday, needing a crucial road victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Down 3-2 in the second round against the Florida Panthers, the Leafs either win to force a Game 7 on home ice on Sunday or head into yet another offseason with a sour taste in their mouth.
But while fans in Toronto and across the country — and let’s face it, the world — are anxiously awaiting puck drop, it seems like the same buzz might not actually be circling around Sunrise, Florida, who’s Amerant Bank Arena the matchup is taking place.
At press time, the cheapest tickets were going for C $114 on Stubhub, down from C$131 when we checked at noon Eastern time.
While most teams use Ticketmaster as their primary seller, the Panthers use SeatGeek.
That website showed 65 listings available for at least a pair of tickets from the box office today, starting at US $138 or about C $193 each for two upper bowl seats. It appears, then, that multiple tickets on Stubhub are selling at lower than the cheapest available face value currently out on the Panthers’ official ticket broker.
For comparison’s sake, tickets for Game 5 in Toronto were selling for $490 Canadian for the cheapest pair when we checked on Monday.
Florida’s rink, along with the Tampa Bay Lightning’s digs a short drive away, have often been a favourite vacation spot for snowbirds to check out the Leafs on the road.
But given that thousands of Leafs fans were seen exiting Scotiabank Arena early from Wednesday night’s devastating Game 5 loss where the Leafs were trounced 6-1, it doesn’t seem like there were hordes of Toronto fans booking up a last minute trip to Florida yet today.
The arena will likely be raucous and packed with fans from both teams, while the contest will be a memorable one for however it ends up finishing.
But if you happen to be in the area — or somehow are close enough to an airport and feel like you can get there before the game starts, perhaps you’ll be able to get a playoff ticket for much cheaper than you’d see in Toronto.
Puck drop is set for 8 p.m EDT.
