New Toronto Maple Leafs forward got married weeks after joining team

Nicolas Roy might be a pretty new member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but it appears that he’s already making pretty big moves off the ice.

Earlier this summer, Roy found himself coming to Toronto via the Vegas Golden Knights as part of a sign-and-trade centred around former Leafs star Mitch Marner.

And just a few weeks after he found out he’d be moving to a new city, the 28-year-old Amos, Quebec native tied the knot with his now-wife Laurie in a beautiful ceremony at Quebec’s Manoir Montpellier.

In a ceremony shot by Jenny-Lee Larivière, the duo were married on July 19 in what looked like a beautiful venue with plenty of indoor and outdoor shots.

What does Nic Roy bring to the Leafs?

Roy has been pretty consistent in each of the last four seasons, putting up between 13 and 15 goals each campaign while also hovering between 30 and 41 points, playing either 15 or 16 minutes a night over that stretch. That consistency should help a Leafs team that struggled with depth scoring in the playoffs, though it comes with the obvious caveat of losing Marner.

“It brings a little bit of pressure, knowing what he has meant to the team, but at the same time, there is only one thing I can control, and it is getting ready for a season, getting ready this summer, working out, and skating to get ready for the season. I am focused on that,” Roy said in an intro press conference with the Leafs.

Roy also won a Stanley Cup in 2023 as a member of the Golden Knights.

“Any time you win with a team, you know what it takes. There are always going to be ups and downs. The pressure of the moment is really what I enjoy. I really like to play in those big moments,” Roy added. “That is what we play for as hockey players. I bring the Stanley Cup experience, but I have a lot of experience in the playoffs also.”
