Toronto Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies lands major endorsement deal

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies is the latest member of the team to ink a major brand deal.
Today, Adidas Canada revealed that they’d signed the 22-year-old Arizona native as their latest brand ambassador.
“I’ve always admired Adidas’ commitment to their athletes and to now be a part of the family is a real honour,” Knies said in a release. “I’m excited to be giving back to the sport and hope I can be a positive influence for the next generation of athletes.”
In just his second full NHL season, Knies has elevated himself to be one of the Leafs’ most important players, getting regular minutes in the team’s top-six. In 64 games, he’s put up 24 goals and 20 assists for a total of 44 points.
The deal includes a new ad spot as part of the You Got This campaign, which also includes other athletes in Anthony Edwards, Trinity Rodman, Lamine Yamal, Aliyah Boston, and Skylar Park.

Knies’ ad was filmed alongside his brother Phil, with the two of them opting to do a few extra reps at the end of an on-ice session.
Knies’ work ethic has been one of the main sticking points that multiple members of the team’s staff have praised this year.

“Seeing the players develop and mature, a player like Matthew Knies who’s come in and become an impact player for the team… it’s a lot of gratification,” Leafs assistant GM Hayley Wickenheiser said in an interview with Offside.
Earlier this season, Leafs head coach Craig Berube explained what has made Knies so effective.
“Very fearless. Goes hard to the net. Skates hard,” Berube said after a Jan. 8 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. “He is hard to handle. That’s the way I look at it. He challenges defensemen with his speed and skill. He is heavy. He gets in there, and he is hard to handle.”
