Joe Bowen couldn’t contain his excitement when the Toronto Maple Leafs took a 2-0 series lead on Tuesday night.

Hosting Game 2 at Scotiabank Arena, the Maple Leafs found themselves suddenly in overtime with the Ottawa Senators after blowing a 2-0 lead late in the third period.

But it was a second-generation Leaf who came through as the hero on the evening, with Toronto forward Max Domi scoring his first goal of the playoffs to push the Leafs one win closer to moving on in the postseason.

Calling the game on Sportsnet’s FAN 590 radio network, Bowen erupted when Domi found the back of the net via an assist from Simon Benoit.

Domi’s father, Tie, spent parts of 12 seasons with the Leafs and was shown on the TV broadcast celebrating his son’s accomplishment.

“Hey, Dad! Your kid scored a big goal tonight!” Bowen said in excitement in the moments following the goal.

“Intercepted by Benoit, Benoit carries it back for Toronto. He’s in over the line dropping for Max. Max into the slot. Shooting-SCOOOOORES. Max Domi scores for Toronto in overtime! The Leafs win it 3-2!” Bowen screamed into the microphone when the puck went into the net.

“Simon Benoit, who had the tying goal by the Senators in the third period, leads the rush into the Ottawa zone, drops it back for Max Domi. Looks like Domi is gonna lose control of it, but follows it and rips one high under the crossbar to give the Leafs the 3-2 win in game 2 and the 2-0 series lead,” colour analyst Jim Ralph followed up.

“You kinda thought [Benoit should] give it to Domi earlier. Instead, he took it all the way into the Senators’ zone, and then the Leafs got lucky,” Ralph added. “Simon Benoit went right to the net and then provided the screen.”

Bowen also thought that Ottawa forward Drake Batherson missed a chance to steal the puck from Domi.

“Batherson skated right by it!” he shrieked.
