On Wednesday, the Toronto Island ferry began its summer schedule, marking the unofficial start to the best season in the city.

While many Torontonians may be familiar with the Island, an app is being developed to help those who may need direction to and from, and while visiting the popular summer destination.

The Toronto Island Guide is an app developed by longtime Island residents, a geography professor, and a Toronto-based web development engineer.

“The 825 acre Toronto Island Park welcomes over 1.5 million visitors every year. And the number is growing,” reads their website.

“The Toronto Island Guide is the first-ever app to help these visitors get the most out of their visit to the Toronto Island Park.”

The app, which is set to be released in “spring/summer 2018,” will include everything from trip planning, ferry times, along with information about water safety for swimming, family ideas, places to stay on the Island, and even things like where to get married on the Islands.

The app will also include where to rent bikes, eat, go birding, take a nature walk, find playgrounds, or the clothing optional beach.

“We provide details about all POIs (points of interest), like Centreville Theme Park, the Gibraltar Point lighthouse and residential community at the park’s eastern end,” say the developers.

There will also be a detailed map to help visitors find bathrooms, change rooms, picnic tables, and BBQs.

While some good things in life are free, the app will set back a user $1.79 for the entire guide.

But hey, you may not miss that ferry again.
