Toronto to host free viewing parties for Blue Jays playoff games

The City of Toronto will be hosting free viewing parties for the Blue Jays’ playoff run after all, even if it took them a few games to get around to it.

Starting on Wednesday for Game 4 of the American League Division Series, Toronto will have big screens set up for a “festive, communal game-day atmosphere in the heart of the city’s public squares.”

The viewing parties will be held at multiple locations.

For the World Series, should the Jays advance, they’ll be hosting the games for free at Nathan Phillips Square, at Bay Street and Queen Street, outside of Toronto’s City Hall.

The American League Championship Series viewing parties locations have yet to be determined.

(A previous version of this story erroneously stated all the future viewing parties would be at Nathan Phillips Square)

But for the two last-minute parties, they’ll actually be held in North York and Scarborough.

  • ALDS Game 4: Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7:08 p.m. – Mel Lastman Square, 5100 Yonge St.
  • ALDS Game 5: Friday, Oct. 10 at 8:08 p.m. – Albert Campbell Square, 150 Borough Dr. (if necessary)

“Toronto is a baseball city and when it’s the postseason, we want everyone to experience the excitement together. These viewing parties are our way of turning every corner of the city into one big cheering section. Let’s make some noise for the Jays!” Mayor Olivia Chow said in a release.

How have the Blue Jays been doing in the playoffs so far?

Toronto won the first two games of their best-of-five playoff series against the New York Yankees and appeared well on their way to the ALCS after taking a 6-1 lead on Tuesday night. But a strong Yankee comeback extended the series, with the two teams set to renew hostilities in the Bronx on Wednesday evening.
