Toronto's iconic Harry Potter themed bar is for sale

Harry Potter lovers (or just Torontonians in general) who loved grabbing a drink at The Lockhart sadly won’t be able to do so any longer, as the wizard-themed bar has closed up shop and is now up for sale.

The Lockhart, located at 1479 Dundas Street West, opened in 2015 and soon became a popular spot to grab a potion-inspired drink. It appears to have closed its doors for good just a few months ago. The bar, which made no formal closing announcement, could not be reached for comment. Its most recent social media posts are from earlier this year, and its website is no longer active.

The Dundas Street property where the Harry Potter bar once lived is now on the market for $49,000. Upon first glance, that may not seem like much money for a prime Toronto bar location. But acquiring the property also comes with paying $3,415 in monthly rent (and that price doesn’t include the HST that’s tacked on), plus an additional $1,400 in property tax and utilities.

However, the listing does note that the sale price includes everything that’s already inside the bar, which, from the photos, appears to be the physical bar, some stools, a few shelves, and quite a few decorations.

According to the listing, the bar, which is rather intimate in size, has a liquor license for 35 people. It also has a full kitchen and is being marketed as a possible new restaurant space. In the era of COVID protocols, the “great take-out potential” of this location is also highlighted in the listing.

Hopefully, whoever does acquire this property will be able to create a space that’s equally as magical.
