5 thing to do in Toronto today: Thursday, January 16

Jan 16 2020, 4:48 am

Let’s make your Thursday spectacular. Friday is only a day away, but there are some seriously great things to get up to in Toronto this January 16.

The Dr. Seuss Experience

What: It’s back. After selling out ridiculously fast, organizers have put together another run. Get ready to take a walk down memory lane, as beloved children’s writer, Dr. Seuss’ incredible creations will be appearing in a large interactive exhibit. The 15,000-sq-ft exhibition is a photogenic playground of interesting rooms that recreate the feeling and wonder of walking through a storybook.

When: On until March 22
Where: Square One — 100 City Centre Drive
Admission: $39.99, available online

Come Up To My Room

What: Come Up To My Room is an annual four-day alternative art and design exhibition created and produced by the Gladstone Hotel. It’s one of the only places where art and design intersect, with the historic hotel becoming a platform for site-specific installations. In other words, it’s pretty cool beans.

When: January 16 to 19
Where: The Gladstone Hotel — 1214 Queen Street West
Admission: $5 to 25, available online

Brass Transit

What: See a world-class horn section, a rocking rhythm section, and vocals stacked sky-high, as Brass Transit transports audiences back to the days of the seventies. The premiere interpreters of the legendary jazz rock group, Chicago, Brass Transit’s dynamic, crowd-pleasing, studio-tight tribute includes all the hits from Chicago’s golden age.

When: Thursday, January 16
Time: 8 pm
Where: Flato Markham Theatre — 171 Town Centre Boulevard
Admission: $15 to $70, available online

2020 Texas Gladiators: Eyesore Cinema Presents

What: No one did campy 80s science fiction quite like the Italians. See a showing of the always classically awful 2020 Texas Gladiators. Set in the (then) distant future of 2020, it’s a story of love, loss, betrayal, and of course, a post-apocalyptic hell-scape in the heart of Texas.

When: Thursday, January 16
Time: 8 pm
Where: Eyesore Cinema — 1176 Bloor Street West
Admission: $5

It’s Alive!!! Comedy Show
