Toronto is getting its first dog cafe

Feb 2 2017, 10:46 pm

Wishbone Cafe is opening soon in Koreatown.

Unlike Tom & Sawyer and the PawsWay on Toronto’s Harbourfront, this dog-friendly establishment is not a place to bring your own dog for a hangout.

Modelled in a similar fashion to cat cafes, Wishbone aims to facilitate pet adoption while also offering the mutually beneficial opportunity for dogs and dog-lovers to socialize.

Owners Janio Valencia and Bjorn Frehe are currently in the process of contacting shelters and foster homes in the region to work together to find forever homes for these four-legged friends.

The cafe is soon to launch a crowdfunding campaign to make Wishbone a reality. Plans include dividing the space to be able to house a cafe in a sanitary setting as well as a separate area for pets. Once operational, the intent is to open daily from 10 am to 10 pm with a break in the middle of the day to take the dogs to a park.

Expect an opening sometime in April.
