The Toronto Blue Jays appear to be getting active in the trade market.
Two days out from the MLB trade deadline, MLB Network insider Jon Morosi reported that Toronto is in talks with the Pittsburgh Pirates for a bit of relief pitching help.
“The Blue Jays and Pirates have discussed trade possibilities that would involve a reliever going to Toronto,” Morosi wrote on X on Tuesday morning.

Morosi also outlined David Bednar and Dennis Santana as possible targets for Toronto, with both pitchers eligible for free agency after next season.
The Pirates are logical sellers, as they currently hold a record of 45-62 entering play on Tuesday. Pitching has been a strong point for the Pirates as a whole this year, allowing 3.91 runs per game, fifth-best in the majors. But as they’re scoring just 3.40 runs per game, a major-league worst, it’s put them in a position to part ways with some of their strong pitching staff.
What are the Blue Jays expected to do at the deadline?
Reports of the Blue Jays being buyers match earlier speculation, with a media consensus that Toronto is likely to be very active in the trade market this week.
“The Blue Jays are… a team that has not won the World Series since 1993 and is desperate to do something big again,” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal noted on Monday on the Fair Territory show.
“I think [the Blue Jays] are definitely trying to do something significant. A lot of market forces [are] at work right now. Some clubs still sort of on the fence that might have pitching available,” Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi said on a radio hit on Halford and Brough on Monday.
With the Jays holding the current top record in the major leagues and bringing in fans on the bandwagon from Vancouver all the way to St. John’s, it seems likely that Toronto’s front office appears ready to capitalize on the opportunity in front of them.
The MLB trade deadline is set for July 31 at 6 p.m. ET.
