One night after the Toronto Blue Jays’ biggest win in 32 years, they were hoping to recreate some magic in Game 2 of the World Series.

Coming off an 11-4 victory in Game 1 on Friday night at the Rogers Centre, the Blue Jays faced off against the Los Angeles Dodgers with the opportunity to take a perhaps unthinkable 2-0 lead in the championship round.

But the magic will have to wait another day, with the Dodgers evening the series 1-1 by way of a 5-1 win Saturday night in Toronto. The two teams head to Los Angeles for the next three games of the series.

The Dodgers got on the board early in the top of the first inning by way of a Will Smith RBI single, though it’d take them six innings before they’d score again.

The Blue Jays tied it up with an Alejandro Kirk sacrifice fly in the third inning, but couldn’t muster up much offence otherwise.

Toronto starter Kevin Gausman went 6.2 innings, putting up a stat line of three earned runs by the way of just four hits and six strikeouts.

But Toronto’s starter had a couple mistakes he’ll want to have back. In the seventh inning, Gausman gave up solo home runs to Smith and Max Muncy, giving the Dodgers a 3-1 lead before Louis Varland entered the game for Toronto.

An eighth inning wild pitch for Jeff Hoffman brought in another Dodgers run, while an unsuccessful double play attempt gave L.A. a 5-1 cushion.

Gausman’s mound rival Yoshinobu Yamamoto spun a brilliant game for the team in the other dugout, with the Dodgers starter going all nine innings giving up just four hits, and one earned run with eight strikeouts.

The series has effectively become a best-of-five, with the first team to three more wins becoming world champions.
