Yesterday, The Weather Network was warning of the possibility for an isolated tornado in cottage country, and now Environment Canada seems to have backed that possibility up.
A tornado watch has currently been issued for 10 separate counties across Southern Ontario:
- Bancroft – Bon Echo Park
- Barrie – Orillia – Midland
- Belleville – Quinte – Northumberland
- Dufferin – Innisfil
- Haliburton
- Kingston – Prince Edward
- Parry Sound – Muskoka
- Peterborough – Kawartha Lakes
- Stirling – Tweed – South Frontenac
- York – Durham
A ‘watch’ is the first step in Environment Canada’s public weather alert system, after which comes a ‘warning’.
Meanwhile, the severe thunderstorm watch issued for Toronto this morning is still in effect as of 2:25 pm.
Be careful if you’re travelling for the long weekend.
