Italian ingredients and chefs bring authentic flavour to this Toronto food festival

The Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario (ICCO), is bringing a taste of “The Authentic Italian Table” to Ontario this summer.

The touring food fest will “feature opportunities to experience authentic regional gastronomic delights created by Italian heavyweight Chef Ugo Mura and prominent locals including Chef Roberto Fracchioni, Chef Matthew DeMille, Chef Michael Wilson and Chef Ross Midgley.”

Events scheduled in Toronto, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Prince Edward County are just part of a nine-city tour that will also visit Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, New York, Vancouver, Montreal, and Mexico City.

According to a press release announcing the event, “Today, Italian cuisine is re-interpreted and reconstructed across the globe. The end result, is that what Canadians may be familiar with as Italian food isn’t really Italian due to misused ingredients or using products without DOP, IGP and DOC certifications. The Authentic Italian Table is bringing back pure flavours, celebrating certified Italian ingredients and bringing Canadians the extraordinary taste of traditional dishes.”

Participating chefs travelled to Liguria, Piedmont, and Valle d’Aosta in March to “experience Italian cuisine and food traditions practiced in these regions for centuries.” The aim of the event is to promote authentic Italian products, as well as “experience the very best expressions of how to use them” explains Corrado Paina, Executive Director, ICCO.

Price: $75 for a five-course set menu, or $100 for a five-course dinner with wine.

When: April 27, 2018
Where: Ravine Restaurant, Barrel Cellar, 1366 York Road, St. Davids
Price: $100 for a six-course dinner with wine

When: April 30, 6 pm
Where: Wellington Lake House, 493 Main Street, Wellington
Price: $100 for a five-course dinner with wine

When: May 2, 2018, 6 pm
Where: Luma Restaurant, 350 King Street West, Toronto
Price: $100 for a five-course dinner with wine
