Four teenagers charged following raid involving suspects allegedly shooting at police

Eight individuals, four of whom are teenagers, are facing charges after a police raid near the Donway and Lawrence Avenue East area that involved alleged shots towards officers early Wednesday morning.

According to Toronto Police, at 1:47 am, officers arrived at an apartment in Don Mills and Lawrence to carry out a search warrant.

Police report that people from inside the unit began shooting multiple rounds of gunfire towards them. The officers did not return fire, and backed away from the unit until the shooting ceased.

Of the eight people accused, one of the alleged shooters is 14-years-old.

Tafari Greene, Kristian Lopez Carter, and Jahmarley Smith, all aged 19 and from Toronto – are each facing seven charges related to firearms. A 40-year-old from Toronto is facing six charges related to firearms.

Four Toronto teens; a 14-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy, and two 16-year-old girls, were also arrested at the scene.

In addition to the arrests, two firearms were also seized at the scene.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has now taken over the investigation.

According to the SIU, “when one of the individuals – a 19-year-old man – complained of pain, he was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.”

Three investigators have been assigned to the case.

Update: The name of one of the alleged suspects has been removed as charges were withdrawn.
