Downtown Filipino restaurant closing because of condo development

Feb 3 2021, 2:56 pm

Food spot for Filipino eats in Toronto, Tala, has announced it will be closing next month as their building undergoes redevelopment into a condo.

The restaurant broke the news on its Instagram account.

“This week, we received news that our building will be redeveloped and have confirmed our last service day, March 22,” read the IG post.

“This has been extremely heartbreaking for our family and our staff, but there’s nothing we can do. We need to vacate the premises with or without a new home lined up.”

Tala confirmed to Daily Hive that the redevelopment is for a new condo project taking over the building they operate out of.

The restaurant had opened back in April 2020, during the pandemic, and unfortunately never got to use their dining space.

Though the news has been difficult for the team, they’re staying hopefully, looking to find a new spot in the same area or slightly more westbound.

Until then, Tala is still accepting orders for take out and delivery.
