Police issue public safety alert after RCMP pistol stolen at Sherway Gardens

The Toronto Police Service has issued a public safety alert following the theft of an RCMP firearm.

According to police, on Wednesday, October 30, at 10:04 pm, officers began an investigation into the theft of an RCMP firearm at Sherway Gardens shopping mall.

It is reported that between 7:30 to 9:45 pm, a black satchel with a blue stripe was stolen.

Police say the satchel contained a Smith & Wesson 9mm model 5946 pistol.

The pistol has a silhouette of a horse and rider with GRC and RCMP engraved on the right side of the firearm. It was stolen along with three magazines and a police radio.

If anyone locates the satchel, do not remove the firearm from within.

Police ask that you call 9-1-1 to have officers attend your location.

If anyone has knowledge of or witnessed the theft please call Detective Constable Nicholas Caramanico or Detective Ray Direnzo of 22 Division Major Crime.
