St. Lawrence Market vendors come together to offer home delivery

St. Lawrence Market vendors are coming together and offering home delivery in Toronto amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

While the economy is slowly reopening, St. Lawrence Market had continued its operations with revised hours, and select merchants offered home delivery, curbside collection, and in-store pick-up.

And now, vendors launched “Shop Local Markets.”

Shoppers can place one order for products from a number of merchants including St. Urbain Bagel, Scheffler’s Delicatessen & Cheese, and Ponesse Foods.

According to vendors, it is a challenging time for the Market’s family-run stalls as social distancing protocols have led to a decline in foot traffic.

They say that while a number of individual vendors currently offer home delivery, this service allows users to mix and match products from more than one vendor.

“The St Lawrence Market is a key part of the fabric of Toronto and has been for more than 200 years. We want to maintain this tradition by bringing the market directly to individuals’ homes during this time,” Amy, whose family runs a store within the market, said in a statement.

Shop Local Markets aims to support the family-run businesses that make up the St. Lawrence Market. These stores are struggling as they must continue to cover a range of expenses such as insurance and rent despite a decline in sales.

Home delivery for the St. Lawrence Market is now available online.
