Environment Canada issues Snowfall Warning for Toronto

Jan 17 2020, 9:22 pm

Environment Canada has upgraded its weather statement for Toronto, as the city is now under a Snowfall Warning.

According to the warning, significant snowfall is expected Saturday.

“Snow is expected to move into the area on Saturday morning as a low pressure system approaches,” it reads. “Snow will be heavy at times Saturday morning and afternoon. The snow associated with this low pressure system will move out overnight Saturday night and give way to lake effect flurries close to Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.”

The weather agency predicts the total snowfall amounts near 15 cm for Toronto.

Besides the falling snow, winds gusting up to 60 km/h will create areas of blowing snow giving reduced visibilities, particularly Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening.

Temperatures will hover above the freezing mark for Saturday, and will drop to -2°C in the evening.
