Massive Toronto sinkhole swallows entire TTC vehicle (PHOTOS)
On Tuesday morning, many Torontonians’ irrational fears became a reality as a massive sinkhole swallowed an entire vehicle in the Port Lands area.
According to the Ontario Municipal Water Association (OMWA), a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) supervisor’s car was “engulfed by a sinkhole” near Logan Avenue and Commissioners Street.
The sinkhole was caused by a water main break, which burst around 5:30 am, resulting in a stretch of Commissioners Street to close, disrupting the morning commute.
The TTC also rerouted the 72 Pape bus around the area.

By mid-afternoon, the vehicle was still submerged in the sinkhole and TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said, “once it’s determined safe and confirmed the car is not sitting on a gas line, for example, we’ll haul it out.”
Longer than expected bath time. Once it’s determined safe and confirmed the car is not sitting on a gas line, for example, we’ll haul it out and towel it off. Its tires are going to be all wrinkled! pic.twitter.com/xErexXl1Mg

Crews were able to remove the car just after 4 pm on Tuesday.
