Toronto mall hosting drive-in movie theatre in its parking lot this summer

In the spirit of summer, Cadillac Fairview (CF) is hosting an outdoor movie experience at Sherway Gardens and it starts this week.

The outdoor drive-in movie theatre was created in partnership with the City of Toronto’s DriveInTo initiative and will last for three weekends. Starting Thursday, July 30, the mall will be transforming its parking lot into a movie theatre.

From Thursday to Saturday, there will be two separate screenings featured at 6 pm and 9 pm. Mayor of Toronto, John Tory, will be in attendance in advance of the first screening, Thursday night at 5 pm.

“Our City has been working hard to find new and innovative ways to deliver services for residents to enjoy. Through DriveInTO we are offering safe, temporary drive-in entertainment experiences across Toronto this summer,” said Tory.

“I am pleased that the City has partnered with Cadillac Fairview for Movie Night at CF to support Toronto’s economic and cultural recovery and provide residents entertainment options that are safe.”

The drive-in costs $10 per car, per movie. Tickets are available online starting at noon on Thursday. All proceeds will be donated to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

A washroom will be set up outside for patrons, including an accessible washroom. There is a requirement for guests to be 2 metres apart while waiting in line. Face masks or facial coverings should also be worn when using the washrooms.

Moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own snacks as food will not be sold. Alcohol and pets are not permitted.

Vehicles will be positioned 2 metres apart and spots are limited to 100 cars per movie screening.

“Building great experiences is at the heart of our business and this initiative is a chance to provide much needed entertainment to nearby residents in a way we’ve never done before,” said Andy Traynor, General Manager, CF Sherway Gardens.

“CF Sherway Gardens has always been seen as a go-to shopping and dining destination for families and we’re happy to provide a memorable occasion to safely bring the community together.”
