Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the city of Toronto on Monday.

According to the alert, at 3:22 pm, the agency’s meteorologists began tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel-sized hail, and heavy rain.

“A severe thunderstorm with torrential rain will move eastward over downtown Toronto over the next hour,” Environment Canada said. “Local flooding is likely.”

If threatening weather approaches, both the fire martial and Environment Canada suggest taking cover immediately.

Heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roads; they recommend to avoid driving through water on roads.

The forecast calls for the rain to last into the evening before clearing along with winds reaching up to 40 km/h that will also dissipate in the early evening.
