Seattle radio host rips Blue Jays fans from Vancouver in hilarious rant

Vancouver baseball fans are caught in the middle of a fascinating debate.

Do they cheer for the Toronto Blue Jays based on country? Or do they root for the Seattle Mariners, based on geography?

It seems like the majority of baseball fans out west are cheering for the Blue Jays, and that decision has rubbed at least one Seattle radio host the wrong way.

During an appearance on Sportsnet 650 radio’s Halford & Brough in the Morning, Dave “Softy” Mahler of 93.3 KJR FM joined the show. Mahler proceeded to go on an all-time rant about Vancouverites cheering on a Jays team located over 3,000 km away.

“Let me ask you a question: is every Canadian dipstick up there rooting for Toronto in this series, or do we have any Mariners fans north of the border?” Mahler asked.

And that’s just how the interview began.

Mahler seemed to be extra fired up, considering that the Blue Jays were fresh off a 13-4 win over the Mariners in Game 3.

“I don’t want to hear your nonsense. I don’t want to hear your Blue Jays B.S., okay? I just sat next to some douchebag last night, grown man, wearing a full Blue Jays uniform, pants, jersey, hat backwards, the only thing he was missing was a cup and a jockstrap for his little Canadian balls,” he said.

“I wanted to walk up and kick the guy right in the crotch, just for walking out of the house wearing something like that. The minute this moron walked into the stadium, I wanted to punch him right in his frickin’ Frank and Beans.”

It’s worth noting that Mahler is a lifelong Mariners fan, cheering for a team that has yet to make a World Series in their 48 years of existence. Even after Seattle took a 2-0 series lead over Toronto, the radio host was still fired up.

Ever since the Blue Jays returned to playoff relevance in 2015, attendance for games between Toronto and Seattle at T-Mobile Park has increased dramatically.

Attendance for those games hovered around 20,000 people before 2015. Since then, the average attendance has been about 32,000, but it was as high as 43,024 back in 2023.

“We’re supposed to hate each other because we’re playing each other right now. No, I hate you guys even when we’re not playing you, okay? I have absolute unfiltered sports hate for Toronto Blue Jays fans.”

“Maybe it’s impossible for me to understand the context. Maybe if I was a fan of a sport, and my country only had one team, maybe I’d feel a lot differently than I do now.”

“But, I just think it’s gross and disgusting that somebody from Vancouver would be rooting for anybody in Toronto.”

While Vancouver is nowhere near Toronto, cheering for the country’s lone MLB team is pretty simple to understand. That’s especially true when Americans boo the Canadian national anthem.

However, Softy did point out one glaring flaw with the allegiance of Jays fans out west.

“Do Canucks fans root for the [Toronto] Maple Leafs? Do you guys root for the [Montreal] Canadiens?”

“People, they’re the same. You are allowing yourself to wake up and encourage joy and celebration in the homes of Toronto Maple Leaf fans who also happen to be Toronto Blue Jays fans.”

“You can’t separate it, so grow up! Enough! Enough of this frickin’ nonsense!”
