Scottie Barnes hobbles off during Raptors game with ankle injury

Scottie Barnes isn’t having the best injury luck with the Toronto Raptors this season.

The fourth-year Toronto forward hobbled off the floor on Monday night following a collision with New York Knicks centre Karl-Anthony Towns by the basket.

The incident occurred midway through the third quarter, with Towns appearing to come down strong on the back of Barnes’ right foot.

Barnes was down for several minutes before being helped off the floor. After taking a few steps with a support person on either side, Barnes hopped to Toronto’s locker room on one foot, refusing any additional assistance.

Prior to the start of the fourth quarter, Toronto’s PR staff shared that Barnes would be out for the night, with the injury being documented as a right ankle sprain. No timetable was given for his projected return.

Towns also saw himself hit the floor quite hard and was also down for a moment, but eventually returned to the game, shooting a pair of free throws.

It’s the second notable injury for Barnes this season, who suffered an orbital bone fracture early in the season after a collision with Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic. He also dealt with a hand fracture late in the season in the 2023-24 campaign, cutting his third year in the NBA short as he missed a little more than the final month of the season.

Coming off of his first career All-Star game appearance last season, it’s been a tough start to this year for Toronto’s face of the franchise, despite still having a strong individual campaign when he has been healthy.

Barnes had averaged 21.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 7.8 assists in 13 games this season entering Monday’s contest. He had played 23 minutes before exiting the game, putting up 15 points before the injury.

Moments after the incident, star Knicks guard Jalen Brunson went to the New York locker room with an apparent collision with a courtside fan.
