Outlet Beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park has received international accolades for its excellent shoreline and ecosystem protection.

The beach received an official Blue Flag designation, a world-renowned eco-label recognizing beaches and marinas around the world for environmental leadership.

Outlet Beach was given a Blue Flag for its pristine water quality and high safety standards.

To receive a Blue Flag, beaches and marinas must meet high international standards in the following four categories: water quality, environmental management, environmental education, and safety and services.

Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, Kathryn McGarry, was at Outlet Beach on Wednesday to raise the flag and celebrate this award along with Ontario Parks staff.

“Ontario is home to some world-renowned places, and our beaches are no different. Adding Outlet Beach and Sandbanks Provincial Park to the roster of Blue Flag beaches around the world is something everyone in Ontario can be proud of,” said McGarry in a release.

Sandbanks Provincial Park is the second Ontario provincial park to receive Blue Flag Designation; Wasaga Beach Provincial Park has been Blue Flag certified for 10 years.
