At 6 am this morning, January 5, the temperature in Toronto reached -23°C.
That low, low temperature breaks a 59-year-old record set (coincidentally) in 1959 when January 5 dipped down to -20.6°C.
Environment Canada has already issued an extreme cold alert citing “a prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected.”
The forecast going into the weekend isn’t looking any better. Saturday is expected to be equally as cold before the weather finally warms up on Sunday to a “balmy” -7°C.
